My Grandma

My sweet Grandma passed away on January 14, 2011. She was 96 years old and as we were sad to say goodbye we rejoiced in the fact that she was no longer suffering! I have so many great memories of my Grandma. She was the best cook, oh her chicken n dumplings, fried chicken, hot homemade rolls, fresh vegetables, and her chocolate fried pies......oh my goodness was it good stuff!! She also made beautiful quilts!! Several years ago she made three baby blankets, one for each of us girls, and gave them to my mom to put away for when we had children. I am so proud of that blanket and will one day be happy to pass it down to my grandchildren. I am so thankful that I took John Ashton to meet her back in October. She just lit up and she played with his feet! I am not sure she understood who he was or whose he was but it meant the world to me!

So many memories of playing at Grandma and Grandpa's farm...collecting the eggs from the chickens, fishing on the pond, swinging on the monkey vines, collecting persimmons and taking them back to cut them open and find a fork, spoon, or knife shape. Playing with kittens, there seemed to always be kittens around, playing on the tractor and around the firewood, taunting the pigs, and then coming in to eat the best meal around!! My grandma also made the best pallets for sleeping, and we always slept well at Grandma and Grandpa's!!

My Grandma had 12 grandchildren and I was the baby!! My dad, of course, was her baby so she really spoiled US! I think she actually spoiled us all!! She was a special little lady and she will be missed but we are so happy that she has been reunited with my Grandpa and that they are in a place where there is no more suffering.

A wonderful picture. This is how I remember your grandparents. Any idea who Santa was? He looks a little familiar to me.

What a beautiful tribute to your grandparents---they were very special people to everyone they met. I also have a precious quilt she made for Jay and I when we got married. Love you, Aunt Shelley
